Honor the Sacred Sun

Today is the longest day of the year and the beginning of summer. The journey into the harvest season has begun. The colors are yellow, green and blue. With the sun at its highest, this is a time that energy reaches its peak, flooding the surface of the planet. With all the light, this is a good time to reflect and make realization. What did you plant in the year that has now matured during this season? Prosperous thoughts? Charitable thoughts? Or do you have lots of weeds in your consciousness?

And what can you do to celebrate this day? Since water is essential for life to continue on Mother Earth, this is a good time to honor the water beings and ask for enough water to care for our gardens. Make a pledge to Mother Earth of something that you can do to improve the environment. You can have a special gift exchange with friends or your family in your garden, to encourage growth and prosperity, and to acknowledge the gifts of the past season.

enjoy this day

A Buddha State of Mind

Time to put words on the page. Fill up the space with twisted vines of thought. Reach out to the Universe and pluck red shifting galaxies. Release gases into withered lungs and plant trees on mars.

Are poets visionaries? or are the visions poetry? The poet sits on a tiny portion of the painting, gazing at the untouched palette.

I am an empty vessel, waiting to be filled. I am a universe within a universe. I am a sea of blossoming womb.

Paint, write, gaze.

Micropoetry and Erotic Haiku

Micropoetry is a genre of poetry that is characterized by being short, brief. My kind of poetry! I've been reading about this poetic art form and discovered that it doesn't really have any rules, other than the character length. Character length is determined by the medium in which it's being shared, such as in a text message, or in a tweet. Twitter limit is 140 characters and cell phone is 160 characters. Anything longer than that, is not considered micropoetry. Twitter seems to be the most popular place for micropoetry. Check out this link for twitter micropoets who share their ‘140 characters or less’ poetry.

When men don’t see their father faces
they live angry,
locking up the vault of memories
and hide their faces
from their own sons.
        ~ Deborah Ramos

Leaning on the seawall,
I blow smoke rings
beneath the moon.
Maybe I just dreamed you,
a fantasy of flesh and fluid,
my breath frozen,
afraid to break the spell.

Watery fingers reach around
my seaweed waist
Once the tide rinses me clean,
I will taste only the salt of you,
until every grain sinks
into your wanting foam
         ~ Deborah Ramos

I love the challenge of telling a story in so few characters, where every word counts, which lends itself well to creating a powerful poem. This form also lends itself well to erotic haiku, blending haiku's tradition of a seasonal reference with the suggestive tone of erotic. Just a note on haiku, haiku generally is written in two parts. A fragment on the first or last line, and then you have the body of the haiku. I am seeing more contemporary haiku, that doesn't follow the 5-7-5 syllable rule, but keeps the 3 line structure.

A good structure for beginners is:
1. Setting  2. subject and action (on two lines)

jungle morning
wet kisses of rain
rivers between bodies
     ~ Deborah Ramos

Haiku isn't usually written in the past, nor does it cover a long period of time. It is submerged in the moment, about ordinary moments, but written to be extraordinary.

This one is seasonal, playful and erotic! Who pushed the snowball down her skirt? Is that person making her nipples perk up? or is the snowball having that affect on her? I've been playing around with this form and here are a few. I can't help sticking to the 5-7-5 rule.

The Power of Pocket Poems

Image result for the earth laughs in flowersShort poems are amazing and powerful. Ralph Waldo Emerson described our mother earth in just 5 words. I love the simplicity, the whimsical image. It's a challenge to pack a whole story in just a few lines. I love the power of short poems. Here are a few of mine.

 Murky Lagoon

shadows move beneath the moon

wet footprints sneak inside
glittery gold sinks to the bottom
secrets linger at the lagoon.
toes dangle in the rippling water

Golden Smoke

Sacred honey-ripe vulva

drums you from the elk-cave.
Ancient golden smoke circles our naked altar.
The canal fills, and my river becomes yours.

Frozen Breath

I still search for you, leaning on the seawall,
blowing smoke rings beneath the moon center.
Maybe I just dreamed you,
a fantasy of flesh and fluid,
my breath frozen, afraid to break the spell.

Volcanic Reef

Sea glass eyes buried
in ancient grains of urchins and corals.

Remnants of seaweed feet
trace skeletons of volcanic shells.

Thousand year old winds
hail the Mermaid Queen
secretly stolen by the reckless tide.

Jungle's Kitchen

Jungle rains beat the forgotten path
as chanting hands shape the bread.
Smoke pants from the fire with
the taste of fried plantains.
We are nourished beneath
the great heart of the sky.
