The Power of Pocket Poems

Image result for the earth laughs in flowersShort poems are amazing and powerful. Ralph Waldo Emerson described our mother earth in just 5 words. I love the simplicity, the whimsical image. It's a challenge to pack a whole story in just a few lines. I love the power of short poems. Here are a few of mine.

 Murky Lagoon

shadows move beneath the moon

wet footprints sneak inside
glittery gold sinks to the bottom
secrets linger at the lagoon.
toes dangle in the rippling water

Golden Smoke

Sacred honey-ripe vulva

drums you from the elk-cave.
Ancient golden smoke circles our naked altar.
The canal fills, and my river becomes yours.

Frozen Breath

I still search for you, leaning on the seawall,
blowing smoke rings beneath the moon center.
Maybe I just dreamed you,
a fantasy of flesh and fluid,
my breath frozen, afraid to break the spell.

Volcanic Reef

Sea glass eyes buried
in ancient grains of urchins and corals.

Remnants of seaweed feet
trace skeletons of volcanic shells.

Thousand year old winds
hail the Mermaid Queen
secretly stolen by the reckless tide.

Jungle's Kitchen

Jungle rains beat the forgotten path
as chanting hands shape the bread.
Smoke pants from the fire with
the taste of fried plantains.
We are nourished beneath
the great heart of the sky.
